Hi Catherine. I totally understand. Shattered despair sums it up. Stay away from all news for your sanity. Keep to escape reading and watching. GOT! ha. You gotta do what you gotta do. Work out some anger! & despair.
Very sorry to hear it's hitting family relations, ugh. It's tough these days.
You take care too. It's going to be a long road .... just keep to self-preservation.

Hello, dear! I've not done as good a job as you at keeping my blog books only and you and I have shared our thoughts numerous times. I'm in a state of shattered despair. This time it is hitting my familial relationships and it's heartbreaking.

My successful reading has largely been fantasy and fast paced thrillers. Pure escape. Also, rewatched GOT on HBO. Rewatched the scene of Sansa standing there will Ramsey is killed 4 times. Probably shouldn't delve too deeply into my psyche right now!

Take care friend. Nice to stay in touch with the normals north of the border!

Hi Ti, it is worse this time. Ugh. The Cabinet picks are just insane. I hope there is a plan. I'm trying not to listen to the news ... as it is too upsetting.
It's cool you're reading I Cheerfully Refuse. I read that not long ago. It's a pretty good visual read. I could picture what was happening on the Lake!
I hope you enjoy the rest of it.

Disappointed. Angry. So many words. This time is worse because there are no checks and balances. He's got the House and Senate and continues to appoint the most ridiculous people just to pad his ego. It's out of our hands. The only thing getting me through it is that "I" believe that God has a plan.

I picked up Japanese literature the other day but haven't gotten to them yet. They do seem like comfort reads to me. Right now I am 100% invested in I Cheerfully Refuse. Oh my gosh. That book. So lovely.

In reply to <a href="https://www.thecuecard.com/books/aftermath/#comment-32600">Haze @ The Book Haze</a>.

Thanks Haze, I appreciate your uplifting words. It's been really disappointing and we're all trying to cope. I think if we can find light -- in things & like-minded people it's good and we can keep going. Hopefully someday we can turn things around -- so we can keep our rights & freedom alive. Stay well.

I was really sad about the election results as well. I generally agree about staying away from talking about politics, but I think there's a difference between not wanting to argue about small differences like whether it's better to put more money towards education or medicare, vs big irreconcilable differences like taking away basic human rights. I cannot understand it.

The one thing giving me hope is that in these dark times, I still see many people continuing to be the light, continuing to love each other, continuing to help each other. I know we can still do some good. Take care of yourself, Susan.

Hi Jane, yeah you probably have to be in the right mood for the Endurance ... but once you are -- you will be glued in.
I'm staying off the news for the foreseeable future ... and it makes me less anxious. I guess I don't have much hope with this admin but we will all wait and see. I hope you've had a nice fall. Enjoy your reads!

It was a rough birthday for me--I didn't get what I truly wanted! My trans niece is really scared, and it's hard not to spout platitudes.

I do have faith that we have the checks in place to prevent the worst-case scenarios from happening. I don't want to be bitter, angry, scared--I am hopeful.

I've had Endurance on the TBR shelf for quite a while now...just not properly motivated, but the time will come! Interesting and encouraging that you reread this periodically--that is endorsement enough for me.

Good Rachel, just stick to those things that provide solace. I love news of your new kitties; they have magical powers! And Peanut too. I'm definitely staying unplugged from the news -- as if I hear anything I head into a big tailspin. I'm not sure how we can stand 4 years of it. Even Canada is not far enough away.
Keep reading & being in nature!
