I agree Michelle. It's a bit erudite for the beach. Hmm

Thanks Wendy. I'm not sure it's too promising if you didn't like Wolf Hall but give it a try. With persistence you might enjoy parts.

Good review, Susan - I'm hoping I'll enjoy this one...but since I didn't love Wolf Hall (even though the print media, bloggers and award judges gushed), I'm a little reticent!

Glad to know you can dive right in to book 2, but I'd probably read them in order. It doesn't sound like a beach read to me, but I'm sure it is for someone. :)

Wow that's quite interesting ... witnessing the coronation, must have been pretty incredible, not to mention her long reign. thanks for stopping by! I will do the same.

I just watched the episode of The Book Review Show where they discussed this and none of their guests liked it either. And a close friend of mine who's a historian hated Wolf Hall so I have to say I am not at all convinced by the hype!

I think I'll stick to lighter fare through these hot summer months, although the plot points do sound tempting.

I'm intrigued by the Jubilee celebrations, especially since I totally recall watching the coronation back in the day...way back!

In school, we were allowed to watch it a classmate's house; there were only two students who had TVs back then. The TV aspect was the most interesting part for us.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts...and here's <a href="http://accidentalmoments.wordpress.com/2012/06/10/tss-a-nice-mix-of-activities-june-10/ " rel="nofollow">MY SUNDAY SALON POST </a>
