Hi Tracy, thanks for your comments. Always kind & thoughtful. And funny to hear about your cat London being a bossy guy. He'll probably turn sweet with age. Stella's medication Prednisone makes her hungrier and more assertive. But she's doing the best she can ... just days away from her 14th bday.
I can relate to your slow start on your Summer List challenge. But you still seem to have read a lot. 500 pages of Middlemarch plus a Bradbury novel is no slouch! And I hope you are feeling better health-wise ... and got rid of jury duty.
Yeah American Marriage has some hard issues about it ... and Kin turns out not overly happy either. But they seem realistic for their times. See what you think if you get to either. Enjoy your week.

Thanks Karis. What did you think of Never Let Me Go ... whoa that's a tense and heartbreaking story! And I haven't read The Buried Giant but it seems different than his other novels. And it's good to know that Tayari Jones's Kin is making the rounds. I liked it. See what you think. Have a great week.

Hearing about your sweet dogs made me sad, it reminds me of our second cat who died last year. I loved what you said about Stella... "She was sweet then and is bossy now." Our newish cat, London, has been with us nearly a year now and he is very bossy. I keep telling Glen and Doug that he will be sweet one day.

I am also getting a very slow start on my 20 books of summer, but I already told you that I was having an adjustment period with reading Middlemarch in June, plus having health problems. I have only read three books (plus 500 pages of Middlemarch) so far since June began, and one was not on my 20 books list. I just finished a mystery novel by Ray Bradbury (A Graveyard for Lunatics); overall, it was good, but at first it seemed more like a fantasy. It was part of a trilogy, and if I had not liked the first one years ago, I might have given up on it.

Your review of Kin was good and I went and checked out your review on Goodreads of American Marriage. I will try to get a copy of one those sometime. American Marriage sounds like a hard read though.

The only Kazuo Ishiguro book I've read is Never Let Me Go, although The Buried Giant has been on my TBR for quite a while! I haven't read anything by Tayari Jones, but I've been seeing Kin everywhere. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

In reply to <a href="https://www.thecuecard.com/books/dogs-bears-and-kin/#comment-42238">Lesley</a>.

Hi Lesley, thanks for your kind comments. Hope you had a great visit with your family. Stella is looking forward to a cupcake next week on her bday, lol.
Good for your tips on reading slumps. I guess I'm just distracted these days with busy summer things ... and had to take a break after that long PW book. And hopefully my reading will come back. I'm into Patchett's novel at the moment via audio of Ann reading it.
Glad you are liking Yesteryear ... it's sort of a crazy thing but a bit interesting. And Safekeep is whoa but potent; I'm curious what she will write next. See what you think. I might try to read more of Tayari Jones's backlist maybe in the fall.
Enjoy your days. & happy reading.

In reply to <a href="https://www.thecuecard.com/books/dogs-bears-and-kin/#comment-42235">Ti</a>.

Hi Ti, thanks, Stella ... like Otter pup is hanging in there but is not great (mostly her legs are bad). Still she is animated and likes being with us. I am glad that Otter pup is not in pain. We have to get Stella out so she doesn't have accidents in the house ... she is not totally aware when she has to go.
I will check out your recent reviews ... and I have not read Fox. Some of her books have scary themes right? I plan to stop by soon. Thanks for coming here. Cheers!

Hi Shelleyrae, I am curious of your average temps in the winter. It is cold there? I can imagine the water would be.
The auction was a good learning experience but I didn't get anything. Still I saw some interesting pieces. Enjoy your week too Cheers.
