Hi AJ, It's good you've been making the change. I think you might like the book. She pokes fun at herself ... but it's a bit perceptive too. See what you think.

It will be out in early November. The 1st, maybe? Be sure to have Robert read the acknowledgements. :)

Yes it's good you caught any tiny errors or things for Rod's book -- editors don't always catch things, though they should. Apparently with The Good House it wasn't a small thing! I think they left off like the last chapter in the audiobook !! which I'm assuming was corrected after her mother brought it to her attention. Crazy eh? But you can never be too safe with a manuscript.
When is Rod's book due out? Look forward to it.

I think I'll go with the audiobook. Funny that you mention that her mother found an error in The Good House. I actually found a couple of errors in Rod's last book, unfortunately after it was printed. This time around, with his new book, I read the galleys very carefully. But really, isn't that what the editors are paid to do?? I did catch a few things that will be corrected before press, so I'm glad I took the time to help out. :)

Hi Lesley, thanks we had a pretty quiet & stormy Canada Day yesterday but we were able to get outside between downpours. It's been a lot different than last year here with more rain. I guess we either have fire or deluge. huh.
All your news is great to hear. Glad the weather was great for your company and for this week's 4th. Seems perfect and beautiful on the coast.
And good to know about the Newman novel -- I'd like to check that out! I think the Leary book is an entertaining listen ... there were a couple lines I wanted to jot down but mostly just an entertaining as an audio. But perhaps the same in print too. There's a chapter where the author's mother catches a mistake in the audio of The Good House ... which was rather surprising. I hope you like the book. ... if you liked Patchett's I think you will.
I'm listening to Fresh Water for Flowers by Valerie Perrin but it's not really in my wheelhouse but I feel I should finish it. Have a Happy 4th!

Happy Canada Day!! This time last year, we were celebrating in Fernie. In some ways that seems much longer than just one year ago.

Your photo is beautiful, as always. I hope you get some rain, but no damage from the storms. We are creeping up into the 70s this week, which is lovely, especially since we're getting together with friends for an outdoor party on the 4th. We had great weather for my family visit (from Escondido & Nashville) this past week, which made everyone very happy.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed Ann Leary's collection of essays. I have an audiobook credit, but I wonder if I'd prefer it in print. Were you tempted to highlight passages, or was it simply an entertaining listen? I listened to The Good House and thought it was great on audio.

I finished (and loved!) Sandwich by Catherine Newman, but now seem to be in a bit of a reading slump. Gave up on North Woods after 60+ pages. I paused The Latecomers for now since it wasn't holding my attention, and now I've started Salt to the Sea and am hoping it will pull me in.

Cheers!

Hi Wendy, thanks. It sounds hot there! A heatwave ... I hope the fires don't get bad. We've had a rainy holiday weekend ... which is different than last summer's blazes. So I guess that's good. I hope you enjoy the Leary book whenever you get to it. It's a quick book & sort of fun. Have a great 4th off! And happy reading.
I'll be visiting SoCal in August when it's roasting. Flying into Palm Springs too, ha!
