I did enjoy that Diana, in The Mother-In-Law wasn’t the ogre she was originally made out to be. She was so sterile and cold. She seemed to be misunderstood a lot. The story direction surprised me a little which is good. Predictable is boring.

In-laws can be a tricky relationship and I'm sorry yours have been difficult. Mine are gone now but my MIL was a great lady & I miss her. It's great to hear your mom grew wild roses in Michigan / they are always so pretty here.

Sorry I am late. I missed this post somehow. The heat has softened my mind maybe. Anyway, my mom grew wild roses on her huge property out in the countryside in MI. I loved them and so did she.
I enjoyed your take on Normal People.
That e-book/library thing by Macmillan seems quite misguided to me. I hope the libraries win.
I have a VERY problematic daughter-in-law who has recently done some terrible things. I am trying to be understanding but it is hard. I might have to skip that book for now, though it sounds good.
I recently finished Trust Exercise. I think I liked it more than you did. Wait for my review.

In reply to Ti. Hi Ti, I'll have to check out The Friends We Keep. You'll have to see what you think of Normal People. It's a bit of an ordinary story of two nerds or misfits who pair up time & again. You have me wondering if the yellow flowering tree is an Acacia tree? The good news is that I'll be visiting my relatives in the OC in two weeks. Can't wait to go to the beach!

The wild rose is lovely. We don’ t have much blooming at the moment. Except for these trees by my work that drop yellow flowers all over heck. It reminds me of snow, the way they cascade down but they stick to everyone so we track them in like crazy. The custodians are not happy with us.

Normal People sounds like a book I can love. I am so close to finishing The Friends We Keep and boy, do I love it. Unless the story suddenly goes south in these last pages it will be a fave for me this year.

In reply to Susie | Novel Visits. Hi Susie: I can relate about your MIL. Sad. The MIL in this story is pretty cold but then she warms up too late. It's a quick mystery, easy on audio. I guess it seems surprising about Crawdads -- who knew it would sell that much. Not me. As for e-books, I read more in print from the library than e-books, but lord knows we don't need longer wait lists.

Hi Deb, I can see where Crawdads would seem implausible … early on, I decided just to go with it — and I’m glad I did. The news about the e-book embargoes seems troubling. I hope it can be rectified.
