As for Elizabeth Strout, you might try out her novel “Amy and Isabelle” first or “Olive Kitteridge.” They might be a bit more readable than this one. Enjoy.

I haven’t read any of Strout’s books. Do you think it’s a good idea to start with this?

Thanks Jane. Yeah the Barton book is a bit different & challenging, and speaking of Everything, Everything: it’s weird when an ending can change one’s mind on a book. It feels like a loss. I don’t have that happen often.

Thanks Katie: It is an entertaining YA novel for the most part — but I just didn’t like the twist toward the end. Some might disagree. It’s a pretty popular book!

I confess, I haven’t heard of Everything Everything –I think endings are pretty tricky for most authors. I have loved many a book, only to have a weird ending undermine the whole experience for me.

Thanks Michelle. Yeah Lucy Barton is sort of a bleak book in ways, but it was interesting enough to keep me going.
