Hi Iliana, I wonder a bit now … if this Lehane book Small Mercies will become a movie. Hmm. His other books are really good as movies. He needs to keep writing books but I hear Lehane is busy with TV now … a series called Black Bird on AppleTV+ … which I haven’t seen yet. It might be too gritty, ha.
Luckily Tropical Storm Hilary didn’t hit my parent’s area in Calif as badly as they thought it would … it’s nice to visit them there.

I can understand Tina, having the hurricane season ahead must be a worrisome experience. So many hit Florida. All we can do is keep alert & do what is needed. But it is very daunting to be in one of those storms. ugh!

Hi Helen, oh good, I forgot you had finished Small Mercies too. I probably saw it on your blog and knew it’d be good.
We had a deluge but little damage here in Redlands but it appears Palm Springs got pummeled. We’ll see how it goes today to get to the airport. What helped is that we didn’t get the huge winds they expected, so the trees are still standing.

Thanks Lesley. I guess the storm didn’t cause major damage in our area so we are happy about that — though Palm Springs is pretty banged up. Crazy eh?
And I’m hoping the fire season up North will start to wind down. I’ll head back soon. What’s happening in BC is definitely worrisome.
Your Mom’s reading so many books at her age is inspirational to me. I want to read in the decades ahead too. But many seniors can’t follow it well.

I’ve previously enjoyed Shutter Island and Mystic River but haven’t grabbed any more of his work. I plan to get his latest, sounds great.

I’m excited to get a copy of Lehane’s latest, but I may wait and see if I can read what’s on my top shelf before the end of the year. My mom reads super fast and keeps giving me her books as she finishes, most of which are on my TBR list. It’s like have my own bookstore to choose from. Fun, but at times, overwhelming!

We’re enjoying a break from our visitors, so I’ve been doing some yard work, but also relaxing and reading in the afternoons. Feels a bit decadent to be “lazy.”

Hi JoAnn: thanks, we made it through the storm okay and no major trees are down in our area so I guess we came out better than we expected. I will see how Palm Springs is tomorrow. Crazy to get a storm like that in August?!
I think after Small Mercies Dennis Lehane might be an automatic read for me for whatever he puts out next. But I’ve heard he might not be writing novels anymore (ugh!) he has transitioned to TV. He has a crime series called Black Bird on AppleTv+. I have not seen it … but it would likely be scary & gritty. The language of this novel was pretty tough but the story was good enough to transcend the harshness. He better keep writing novels! Have a great week.
