Welcome back, Susan! Great pic and report about Kingsolver’s talk. I’m glad you had a fun time in California, and the weather cooperated. You are right, October went by in a blink. Thanks for your shout-outs about my reviews! I don’t think The Disappearers will win the Booker; it’s just too much. Real but awfully brutal. Not the kind of book that one would want to read twice, and that’s exactly what the Booker’s judges must do before announcing the winner, or so they say. That said, the Booker is not exactly known for granting happy stories a happy ending, so it can’t be discounted either.

You nailed both reviews. Gave a good feel of what both books are about. I’m glad that you liked The Renovation; I agree it was a doozy. I’ll be tackling Brawler next year. I’ve only read three of Groff’s novels but I enjoy her writing and range; she never writes about the same thing twice, which is commendable. I’m reading Switzy now; it’s OK, not fireworks. A meditation on mortality and memory. I’m 33% in; it reads relatively fast for such a downer of a topic. Hope to finish before the end of the week. Happy week ahead and enjoy your reading (whatever it is)!

I dropped my ballot in an official ballot box a couple of weeks ago and have confirmation that it will be counted. Fingers crossed that it all goes well on Tuesday.

I've just started listening to Kingsolver's new one, Partita, and I'm glad her book events are good. I'll have to keep an eye out.
