Thanks Rachel. You’ll probably like Severance. The Goldfinch reads easy despite being very long. There’s quite a lot of drug/alcohol stuff in it but it does emerge from the haze. I enjoyed it as a modern Dickens kind of tale.

I glad you posted about Severance. They talked about it on the NYT book review podcast and it sounded really good but then I forgot the name of it before I had a chance to put it on my TBR list.

Thanks Jane. Happy fall to you as well. I also liked Pippa in the book a lot — though I’m not sure she lives up to what I pictured of her in the movie. Gosh I sort of wished in the book Theo & Pippa had found each other at the end but I guess that’s too wishful thinking. The book was a super long (but good) read for me!!

Hi Ti, I’m sure you’ll get out of the slump soon — especially with the new King book out. I haven’t heard much about it yet. I’m glad you liked The Goldfinch book — it would make a pretty big book club read. It took me like a month to get thru it but in the end I’m glad I did. I think we might fly into Palm Springs in Nov to visit my folks — perhaps it’ll be less hot then. I’ll stop by your site soon to hear what’s going on.

Hi Susie: yeah I’d like fall to stay dry and summer-like for a long while! I’m sure the Goldfinch feels a long time ago — I skipped it at the time but I’m glad I went back for it. It is very long but luckily the pages turn easily. The movie is all right though it is hard to compete with the book. Enjoy it if you go.

Your crisper weather sounds lovely. It’s fall-ish here. Not hot hot. Just hot and the light has changed a little. The mornings are fresh and the evenings cool. I love this time of year.

I finally finished that one book that was hogging my time. We discuss it tonight. It wasn’t horrible it was just so slow and I was already in a bad mood from work stuff.

I am going to push myself a little to get out of this slump because without reading, what do I have? I know! I am so dramatic.

Hi Kathy, the long periods of daylight I will miss too! I’m so glad you loved the book — we are on the same wavelength. The movie & book are kept a bit separate in my head so do not ruin one another. How I imagine the characters to look & be are a bit different than how they are in the movie. But that’s okay.

Thanks Brian, Donna Tartt was heavily influenced by Dickens and Stevenson for this book. Also the destruction of the Buddha statues also made an impact on her for getting the idea of it. Read it when you have a chunk of time! Ha. Like on a long trip to Hawaii. Enjoy.
