I really enjoyed Girl Runner and gave it a very good review, but I caution you that it’s not really “brighter fare” — it’s really sad! (But lovely.)

Yes good point. I expect when I reread it my experience of the book will be quite a bit different than when I read it when I was young. Though I hope I will still enjoy it.

I read it in high school and didn’t like it, but I blame my English class and not the book. A friend, who is now a lawyer and a dad, just reread it and said the experience was really different for him as an adult.
